Territorial Director, Communications
The Salvation Army Southern Territory
Bernie Dake has served The Salvation Army for more than three decades, beginning his
career in 1991 and working at every level of the organization across the United States. His
service began at the corps level as a youth pastor, where he developed a deep appreciation
for frontline ministry, volunteer engagement, and community presence. He later joined
National Headquarters in the Christian Education Department, where he helped develop
the Corps Cadet Curriculum, gaining early experience in program development and
mission-focused communication.
Bernie transitioned into Public Relations at Divisional Headquarters before returning to
National Headquarters as Liaison for the National Advisory Organizations Conference in
Pasadena, California. In 2001, he moved to the Washington, DC Divisional Headquarters as
Development Director for the Metropolitan Area Command, leading fundraising and donor
engagement eTorts in a complex urban environment.
He later transferred to Southern Territorial Headquarters, serving as Assistant Territorial
Music Director and Director of Music Publications, Production, and Marketing. In 2020, he
was appointed Territorial Director of Communications, providing strategic leadership for
brand stewardship, storytelling, and integrated communications across the Southern
Territory.
A lifelong Salvationist, Bernie is deeply committed to the Army’s mission to preach the
gospel of Jesus Christ and meet human need in His name without discrimination. He and
his wife, Laura, are soldiers at the Atlanta Temple Corps, where he serves as a bandsman,
songster, and technology resource.
