Trinity Missions
John T. Butler is Vice President of Development and Mission Advancement for Trinity Missions, a Catholic Congregation of missionaries working among the poor and abandoned across the United States, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Haiti, and Colombia. Trinity Missions priests, brothers and volunteers work in the heart of economically depressed areas, on Native American reservations, in tropical rain forests and in isolated towns of the Deep South bringing hope, comfort, and relief to the suffering of the poor, the abandoned, and the most neglected in the world.
Formerly, John served as the Secretary for Development for the Archdiocese of Washington where he led the philanthropic and fundraising efforts to advance the evangelization, pastoral and charitable works of the Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. Prior to holding this position, John served as Associate Vice President for Institutional Advancement at the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, DC, and before that, he served as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland where he managed all fundraising for the University, Seminary, and Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes. Additionally, he successfully led the largest capital campaign in the university’s history.
Earlier, John was President/CEO of Archbishop Carroll High School, where he oversaw academics, development and external relations. His work in creating a Business Champion Program that linked regional business leaders with students to help explore career interests, became a national model. Prior to beginning his career in fundraising, John was President & CEO of HRLC, Inc., a management consulting firm serving the private and public sectors.
His membership and Board service includes: The Nonprofit Alliance, the Catholic Business Network of Washington D.C, and Georgetown Prep High School. Formerly, John served as a board member with the Association of Fundraising Professionals for Washington, DC; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Advisory Council; the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of Malta, Mount Saint Mary’s University, the District of Columbia Workforce Investment Council, Leadership Greater Washington, and Leadership Maryland. He is past Board Chair for Leadership Greater Washington, the Fishing School, and Carroll Publishing Company.
John holds a B.A in Political Science from St. Michael’s College; a M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling from Howard University; completed Masters of Theological Studies course work at the Theological Union, and has a Certificate in Group Work and Group Psychotherapy from the Center for Group Studies, Psychiatric Institute of Washington. John is also qualified by Type Resources to administer the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and is credentialed by CFRE International as a Certified Fund Raising Executive.
