Howard University Medical Alumni Association, Inc
Steven L. Titlebaum, CFRE, is a seasoned nonprofit management professional with more than 30 years of experience, including over 25 years specializing in fundraising for both local and national organizations. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Howard University Medical Alumni Association (HUMAA), where he leads fundraising and alumni engagement initiatives benefiting students and graduates. Under his leadership, HUMAA awarded more than $365,000 in scholarships, nearly doubling the total awarded in his first year.
Before joining HUMAA, Steven spent over a decade at Gallaudet University in multiple leadership roles, including Director of Development. There, he focused on major donor relations, special project fundraising, and played a key role in the university’s capital campaign. He also launched Gallaudet’s first-alumni class competition giving program. Earlier in his career, he served as Director of Resource Development at Capital Caring (formerly Capital Hospice), where he strengthened corporate giving and helped establish a Corporate Advisory Group.
A dedicated educator and advocate, Steven created and taught the first “Introduction to Fundraising” course in American Sign Language at Gallaudet University. His community service includes board roles with Discovering Deaf Worlds, DAWN (formerly Deaf Abused Women’s Network), and the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) DC Chapter—where he was honored with the President’s Award in 2017 for outstanding service.
Steven is a frequent conference presenter, having spoken at the AFP International Conference (2022), Unidos’ 2016 Conference, and the Bridge Conference on multiple occasions. His passion for social impact extends to policy work through the Interactivity Foundation, where he has contributed to panels addressing issues such as first-generation college access, civil rights, and child welfare. He also volunteered as a Big Brother mentor for nearly a decade.
Steven holds a master’s degree in human services administration from Spertus College in Chicago and earned his Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) credential in 2007. His career reflects a deep commitment to advancing the nonprofit sector, empowering communities, and supporting the causes he serves.
